Human Resources Specialist

Currently, we are looking for a Human Resources Specialist to join the ArcBest team. The Human Resources Specialist provides a unique service through special knowledge, skill, and experience. This position provides support in functional areas of Human Resources (HR) which include onboarding as well as administrative support of the daily operations of the HR department. The Human Resources Specialist requires extensive contact with the various departments at the corporate level as well as with subsidiaries.

Your contribution may include:

    • Create a positive experience for all new employees to support the employee engagement initiatives.
    • Lead new hire orientations to build a strong foundation for new employees.
    • Schedule pre-employment drug screens and physical exams for potential hires.
    • Conduct and evaluate background investigations for potential hires.
    • Confirm pre-employment requirements are met, initiate new hire process including onboarding, and communicate first day job expectations to new hires.
    • Provide guidance and assistance on human resources policies, procedures, and standards to current and potential employees.
    • Create and maintain new hire videos, presentations, and orientation activities.
    • Ensure federal compliance by verifying employment eligibility of all new employees with form I-9 and E-Verify.
    • Maintain and distribute new hire welcome guides.
    • Provide campus tours as needed or requested.
    • Approve incoming requests including but not limited to legal and preferred name changes, photo changes, etc.
    • Facilitate all employee changes to maintain validity of employee job profiles, cost centers, and supervisory organizations.
    • Validate and provide employment information on various types of verifications, including but not limited to housing, unemployment, disability, insurance, and DOT mandated drug and alcohol and vehicle accident history.
    • Download and process daily drug and alcohol results to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
    • Review and communicate daily pre-employment drug results, and prepare monthly drug and alcohol reports for leadership.
    • Provide guidance to field personnel related to DOT drug and alcohol program.
    • Track, coordinate, and maintain compliance with DOT follow-up and post-accident testing requirements with Service Center leadership.
    • Communicate extensively with the medical review officer, collection clinics, and lab regarding drug and alcohol test issues.
    • Track, coordinate, and maintain compliance for DOT physical recertifications including return to work procedures for over 240 Service Centers.
    • Process, review, and provide guidance to leadership regarding MVR reports on drivers to ensure all endorsements for drivers are compliant.
    • Review and advise leadership on FMCSA medical certification updates.
    • Advise field leadership, clinic personnel and employees regarding DOT physical recertification issues.
    • Coordinate retirement documentation, gift, and recognition with retiree, their leadership, and third-party vendors, Corporate Facilities, and Payroll as well as their leadership.
    • Review and prepare monthly and quarterly data files for service awards and submit to third-party vendor for service award processing.
    • Maintain confidential employee records.
    • Oversee and distribute service award patches.
    • Lead various Human Resources projects.
    • Other duties and projects, as assigned.
    • As a Human Resources Specialist, you will be a member of the ArcBest Human Resources team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload.

    Education: Bachelor's degree, preferred.

    Experience: Knowledge of principles and practices of Human Resources, preferred.

    Computer Skills: Experience with MS Office applications, preferred.

Sick Pay

5 days per calendar year.
