Currently, we are looking for a Supervisor, Safety to join the ArcBest team. The Supervisor, Safety is responsible for maintaining compliance, company assets and interests, and assuring safe, healthy working conditions. This position works to prevent injuries, maintain training compliances, and identify causal factors to establish countermeasures preventing future occurrences. The Supervisor, Safety ensures compliance with company policies as well as federal, state, and local regulations, standards, and ordinances.

Your contribution may include:

    • Conduct various Safety & Security inspections at ABF service centers.
    • Conduct loss prevention meetings, training and educational sessions with employees and customers.
    • Effectively coach and mentor Service Center teams including training new employees and coaching existing employees.
    • Serve as a safety liaison to Service Centers and various departments to ensure establishment and compliance of a safe working environment.
    • Implement, educate, and follow through on the ABF Quality Process, policies, and procedures.
    • Work with Service Center management and Real Estate team members to meet stormwater compliance.
    • Establish a Safety Council and lead quarterly meetings.
    • Review safety videos and coach personnel as needed.
    • Assist ABF Service Center management and drivers with hours-of-service compliance.
    • Conduct orientation sessions with new-hire employees to ensure an understanding of Safety & Security awareness, administer DOT Road Tests, Forklift, and Hazardous Material Training.
    • Oversee the allocation of expenditures, closing a route, placing unsafe equipment out of Service, and failing driver applicants.
    • Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary recommendations, as needed.
    • Provide guidance and support for service centers not meeting expectations; identify training needs and develop appropriate training proposals.
    • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.
    • Assist Coordinators and Service Center Managers with the efforts regarding the Alternate Work Program.
    • Champion company values, policies, and initiatives.
    • Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
    • Other duties and projects, as assigned.
    • As a Supervisor, Safety, you will be a member of the ABF Freight Safety team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload. This position is also required to be on call during non-working hours.

    Education: Bachelor's degree, preferred. Experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.

    Experience: Minimum, two years' experience with ArcBest or any of its subsidiaries. Minimum, two years' transportation, safety, DOT compliance or law enforcement background with an emphasis on investigative experience, preferred. Background in law enforcement and expertise in conducting interviews and interrogations, preferred.

    Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite,

    Certifications: Education, background, or experience in industrial traffic, hazardous material regulations, DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations and guidelines, accident investigation, or criminal law, preferred. Knowledge of surveillance techniques and equipment, the judicial system and its procedures, commercial motor vehicle enforcement, state and federal regulations affecting the transportation industry, preferred.

5 days per calendar year.
